MALTA CARNIVAL

also known as il-Karnival ta’ Malta. Carnival in Malta dates back to the 15 th century. Since then a few iterations of carnival have popped up throughout the country. The main event takes place in the capital Valletta. Malta. Carnival is a family friendly event so you’ll see many a young one rife with energy and excitement in the parade. Floats are an important piece of Mata’s carnival history. The construction of the floats is considered an art form – much time and dedication by their makers in put into these wondrous installations. Marching bands and dance groups are also a commonality in Valletta’s parade. Taking the theme of carnival and shaking things up is exactly what the carnival in Nadur is doing. Like Valletta there is music, food, and revelry. However it’s best to leave the kids out of this one. Nadur offers an unstructured festival experience – people literally gather with no set parade route to travel. Only ready to party. The décor here takes on a darker vibe. Some call it Grotesque Carnival.
