The hustle and worries of life ceases for four days in Panama during its annual carnival
celebrations. Stress is washed away with nightly parties, multiple plates of food and good drinks.
Las Tablas is a town a few hours from Panama City. It holds the most popular carnival in
Panama. The Carnival Queen is elected from neighboring competing towns – these are called
the “upper street” and “lower street” areas. Each town tries to outdo the other in terms of décor and of the most worthy of being Carnival Queen. The street parade is filled with historical and cultural costumes and detailed floats. Plus lots of laughter and smiles from the people. A special feature of Panama Carnival is the culecos. These are water filled trucks designed to spray the dancing crowds of people. An efficient way to cool the crowd down. You can get wet by the culecos or by a fellow dancer in the crowd. It’s a fun tradition that has no plans of stopping.
