The city celebrates its bubbling diversity with a 5 day cultural celebration featuring performance arts, live music, dance presentations and a carnival parade. Zomercarnaval, as it is called in Netherlands, is prepped as is any carnival parade is any a major metropolis. Streets are blocked off and marked specifically for the parade route. Barricades are set along the streets the only physical barrier separating costumed feters and those feters who party on the sidelines to spectate. And of course what is carnival without a wide range of costumes. Feathers and fringe, or logo marked t-shirts, even pirate inspired outfits – you can find these revelers in about anything. At the end of the day, in Rotterdam it’s not about what you wear it’s about the celebration, the feeling.
