Charleston brings carnival to the southern States in festive fashion. The annual summer festival takes place during Caribbean American History month. The heat of June isn’t the only element that gets hearts pounding, pulses rising, and bodies sticky with sweat – the carnival street parade its music trucks and masqueraders is a highlight. The Carifest allows locals and visitors of Caribbean descent to fully celebrate and honor their history and preserve an important part of their culture – carnival. It’s an opportunity for Charleston natives and others who travel to the city for Carifest to learn about Caribbean culture. Education of Caribbean history and culture is the first to initiate the Carifest. Reggae music is a staple of the festivities after the parade Carifest has a carnival village hosting live musical performance and endless Caribbean cuisine.
