GOA CARNIVAL | INDIA

This three day festival is alive with mass merry-making and care free abandon. Introduced to
carnival by the Portuguese who ruled Goa centuries ago Goa Carnival attracts thousands a year interested in flavoring their version of carnival. It began as a Christian celebration though today it has evolved into an open festival incorporating Hindu tradition and Western culture. It does not matter the caste or creed – people all over India make it a habit to attend Goa Carnival. Over the three days multiple parades pop up throughout featuring costumed moving floats, bands, and costumed dancers. The costumes range from Disney cartoon fare to sky high puppeteers. The three days of revelry conclude with the famed red and black dance. Patrons on floats don red and black – the women wear red tops and black pants vice versa for the men. This one of the most popular events of Goa’s three day carnival.
