Leeds West Indian Carnival | UNITED KINGDOM

Chairman Arthur France, who funded Leeds Carnival in 1967, reportedly did so as a “remedy for Caribbean homesickness”. Well, mission accomplished, Chairman. Leeds Carnival captures that feeling of pulsating energy uniquely belonging to the West Indies and Caribbean. Everyone is welcome and represented during Leeds West Indian Carnival. When the carnival fever begins with the younger generation, young masqueraders engage in friendly competition in the Prince and Princess of Calypso Monarch contests where the best individual costume and performance wins the title. The following week, the adult competition of the Carnival King and Queen Show takes center stage. Extravagant and voluminous costumes are on display. Where those competing vie for the coveted prize of King and Queen. When parade begins, it brings with it pulsating music, floats, and hundreds of costumed masqueraders. 3 days of assured flair, culture, and good vibes.
